Master of Science in Urban Studies (MS)
The Master of Science in Urban Studies (MS) engages students in the interdisciplinary study of cities and the process of urbanization. Subfields in anthropology, geography, as well as urban planning and historic preservation allows students the opportunity to design a unique program of study that incorporates the insights of the three departments and other UNO resources. MS graduates enter applied fields in urban planning, public administration, government agencies, private corporations and non-profits. The program also prepares students to pursue specialized research leading to a doctoral degree.
Master of Urban and Regional Planning (MURP)
The 45-credit hour program offers specializations in the areas of Environmental and Hazard Mitigation Planning, Historic Preservation, Housing and Community Economic Development, Land Use and Urban Design, and Transportation Planning. These specializations provide students the opportunity for more targeted training in their chosen area of interest. The Department also offers a certificate program in Historic Preservation and a certificate program in Hazard Planning. Opportunities exist for students to earn Credentials in Hazard Policy Studies offered through the UNO Department of Political Science and a proficiency in GIS through the Department of Geography.
Master of Science in Transportation (MS)
The Master of Science in Transportation 33-credit hour program is designed for traditional students and working professionals seeking career advancement or a specialized career in transportation planning or administration. The program offers specializations in transportation planning, transportation administration or a self-directed concentration. The format of the program is a hybrid of online and on-campus courses. Students will have the flexibility of an online program and the benefits of concentrated on-campus meetings that will allow students to build a professional network with classmates, instructors and industry-affiliated partners.
Ph.D. Program in Urban Studies
The Doctor of Philosophy in Urban Studies degree enables students of exceptional ability to undertake advanced study and original research in the fields of Urban Affairs, Urban History, Urban Planning and Urban Anthropology. The program's mission is to prepare students for careers in scholarly activity, applied research, and policy analysis. The Ph.D. in Urban Studies program provides graduates with a solid foundation from which to develop policy and conduct applied research outside of academic settings and for teaching and research in colleges and universities.
