Message from the President
Dear Colleagues,
I have some developments on the planned closure of Milneburg Hall that I鈥檇 like to share with you. Thanks to the work of the Space Utilization Committee, under the leadership of Mark Pyle and Taryn Chevis, we have identified new space for the faculty and staff who will relocate from Milneburg Hall. As I communicated back in June, our goal is to vacate the building by the end of 2024.
The Space Utilization Committee made the following recommendations, and these were approved by the Executive Cabinet:
Milneburg Hall Move
- Planning and Urban Studies will move to the first floor of the Bicentennial Education Building (currently occupied by TRIO) and the AT&T suite on the first floor of Kirschman Hall (currently occupied by Development)
- Development will relocate elsewhere in Kirschman Hall
- Political Science will move to the first floor of the Bicentennial Education Building Anthropology & Sociology will move to the third floor of Kirschman Hall, with Dr. Ryan Gray鈥檚 collections moving to the second floor of the Earl K. Long Library so that they can be more readily shared with the public
- Fine Arts will move to the Property Control Building/space behind Fine Arts
TRIO Move
- TRIO staff will move to the second floor the Geology & Psychology Building and the advising cubicles on the first floor of the Earl K. Long Library
I recognize that moves such as these can be challenging and uncomfortable. I appreciate your flexibility and understanding. In addition to capturing savings associated with maintenance, repair and insurance of an older building fraught with challenges, we are taking these steps to ensure that all employees and students have a reliably comfortable environment in which to work and learn.
Sincerely,
Kathy Johnson, Ph.D.
President
