About
Dr. Chia-Hsing Lin received a B.F.A. in piano performance from Taipei National University of the Arts and his M.M. and D.M.A. from the University of Cincinnati, College-Conservatory of Music. His past teachers include renowned Taiwanese conductor and pianist Sung-Jen Hsu, Mei-Ling Wang, Boris Lvov, Sergio Fiorentino, William Black, and Frank Weinstock.
Dr. Lin has won many competitions, including the International Arlington Competition, the OMTA Piano Competition, the Taipei Philharmonic Piano Competition, the First Taiwan Concerto Competition, and the Taiwan National Piano Competition.
He has performed as a soloist with the Central Philharmonic Orchestra in Beijing, the Taipei Philharmonic Orchestra and Chorus, the Taiwan National Symphony Orchestra, the National Institute of the Arts Chamber Orchestra, the Arlington Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Indiana State University Music Band.
As a chamber musician, Dr. Lin has performed throughout Asia and the United States both in concert and for radio and television broadcasts. Highlights include the Arlington Philharmonic Concert Series, the Grandin Festivals, the Chicago Flute Club Competition, the Indiana State University 43rd Contemporary Music Festival, the 2011 CCM Bassoon Concerto Competitions, and the Dame Myra Hess Memorial Concert Series in Chicago, broadcast live on WFMT. He has also performed live multiple times for the Beijing Central Broadcast, the Taipei Philharmonic Broadcast, on the Taiwan TTV Channel, and others.
In New Orleans, Dr. Lin served as musical director and pianist for the Contemporary Arts Center鈥檚 production of Mois茅s Kaufman's "33 Variations," which garnered critical acclaim and a 2014 Big Easy award. He has performed at numerous venues including the Ogden Museum of Southern Art, the French Quarter Festival, St. Louis Cathedral, Deutches Haus, Snug Harbor Jazz Bistro, WWL-TV, and the annual Bach Around the Clock marathon at Trinity Episcopal Church.
An advocate of contemporary music, Dr. Lin has collaborated on both chamber and vocal works by Samuel Zyman, Christopher Mayo, Michael Ippolito, Laurie Anderson, Lee Hoiby, Jake Heggie, and others. In 2006, he was recognized as the best accompanist in the Grandin Festival.
