McNAIR SCHOLARS PROGRAM
ABOUT
The McNair Scholars Program was founded in 1986 in memory of Dr. Ronald E. McNair, the NASA physicist/astronaut, who died aboard the Space Shuttle Challenger which shockingly exploded 73 seconds after liftoff.
The Ronald E. McNair Post-Baccalaureate Achievement Program, also referred to as the McNair Scholars Program, is a United States Department of Education TRIO initiative which seeks to provide intensive support to eligible undergraduate students interested in pursuing a doctoral degree. Students of the McNair Scholars Program are provided involvement in research and other scholarly activities while pursuing an undergraduate degree.
GOAL
The goal of the McNair Scholars program is to increase the attainment of Ph.D. degrees by students from underrepresented segments of society.
ELIGIBLE STUDENTS
McNair participants are first-generation college students with financial need or members of an ethnic group that is traditionally underrepresented in graduate education and have demonstrated strong academic potential. Traditionally, the eligible students are classified as junior or senior undergraduate students.
