Post-Katrina Brazucas
Description
In the time of reconstruction following the catastrophe of Hurricane Katrina, a number of Brazilian immigrants relocated to New Orleans, establishing their own immigrant network in the city. Post-Katrina Brazucas examines how this network developed from 2005 to the present and how Brazilians 鈥減erformed鈥 their presence in their new home. While rebuilding a devastated city, Brazilians created a new enclave in New Orleans and created hybrid forms of Brazilian-New Orleanian cultural expression.
Author Bio
Annie McNeill Gibson was born in Princeton, New Jersey and grew up in Davidson, North Carolina. She received her B.A. from Dartmouth College in 2003 and her Ph.D. in 2010 from the Stone Center for Latin American Studies at Tulane University. Her areas of specialization include Brazilian and Cuban performance cultures and Brazilian immigration to the United States. She currently teaches at Tulane in both the Departments of Latin American Studies and of Spanish and Portuguese.
