Pre-law
Students across the UNO campus can take advantage of the pre-law offerings housed in the department of political science. Earning a pre-law concentration is a wonderful way to receive exposure to the world of US law, constitutional development, and the politics of court systems at every level of government, from local jurisdictions to international treaties. Students who are interested in working in legal services (e.g. criminal defense, district attorneys’ offices, in-house counsel), non-profit careers, or state and local politics, can especially benefit from the pre-law concentration.
All students, whether they are in the political science or pre-law majors or not, are also able to receive help from the department’s new pre-law advisor, Dr. Grace Reinke (greinke@uno.edu) by setting up a meeting in person or over Zoom. Prof. Reinke can provide one-on-one advising to help with things like writing a personal statement, preparing for the LSAT, and navigating the process of applying to law school.
To earn a minor in political science with a Pre-Law concentration, undergraduate students will take the following sequence of classes:
• 18 credit hours in political science, including Political Science 2151 (American Government), and 2600 (Introduction to Comparative Government) OR 2700 (Introduction to World Politics)
• The remaining 12 hours are to be chosen from the following list of Political Science courses:
