Coursework Requirements for Thesis-Based MS
Thesis-based MS students must use the following form to plan and record their course work towards fulfilling the requirements of the degree.

Course Work
To meet the background, depth and breadth requirements (as mentioned in the form), students will need to consult the mapping between courses and their areas of study.
- For thesis-based MS, thirty (30) credit-hours are required, no more than six (06) of which may be thesis credit. No more than 12 credit-hours may be at the 5000 level.
Thesis/Dissertation
Thesis-based MS students must complete a thesis/dissertation under the supervision of a faculty member (i.e., thesis advisor/major professor) and a thesis examination committee. A thesis-based MS student must enroll in CSCI-7000 (Thesis Research) for at least six credit hours. With approval from thesis advisor (aka, major professor), the student must write an MS thesis and submit it to the thesis examination committee at least two weeks before the proposed date of thesis defense. The first announcement of a thesis defense public presentation must be made at least one week before the defense date. Upon successful completion of thesis defense, the student/candidate must initiate the to confirm and record completion of the thesis defense.

Before applying for graduation, a copy of the completed form must be submitted to the department (graduate coordinator). If submitted by email, the subject must be exactly "MS Checklist".
