What is the ACM?

The Association for Computing Machinery is the computer science professional society with chapters around the world and over 200,000 members. Most of the top professionals and researchers in computer science are members.

What we'll do in ACM?

Here at the 91Ö±²¥, the student chapter supports computer science majors with a regular Industry Speakers series where in representatives from local, national, and international companies speak to the students about internships and job opportunities as well as provide advice on preparation for their careers.

In addition the student chapter organizes social events to foster a sense of community within the department and provide an opportunity for newer students to network with other undergraduates, graduate students, and faculty. ACM social events include such things as LAN parties, movie nights, and social gatherings at local restaurants. In addition to the Industry Speakers series, the ACM also hosts workshops to help students develop their professional skills in preparation for internships and transitioning into their careers after graduation.

What is the ACM-W?

Founded in Fall 2015, the Association of Computing Machinery–Women Chapter seeks to provide professional, academic and social support to women who are interested in pursuing studies and careers in information technology.

What is GDSC?

Google Developer Student Clubs (GDSC) are community groups for college and university students interested in Google developer technologies. Students from all undergraduate or graduate programs with an interest in growing as a developer are welcome. By joining a GDSC, students grow their knowledge in a peer-to-peer learning environment and build solutions for local businesses and their community.

What we'll do in GDSC?

Students come together to build a variety of programs and applications and solve challenges developed by google.

What is ICPC?

The International Collegiate Programming Contest is an algorithmic programming contest for college students. Teams of three, representing their university, work to solve the most real-world problems, fostering collaboration, creativity, innovation, and the ability to perform under pressure. Through training and competition, teams challenge each other to raise the bar on the possible. Quite simply, it is the oldest, largest, and most prestigious programming contest in the world.

Train and compete in the regional ACM ICPC competition against other universities

What is IGDA?

The International Game Developers Association is a professional organization in support of developing video games. The club is mentored by Dr. Ben Samuel, director of Light Lab and Director of the Game Development Concentration.

What we'll do in IGDA?

The IGDA UNO chapter participates in the local game dev meet-ups that occur each month. Additionally, we prepare and compete in the IGDA sponsored game jam competitions. We'll participate in online game jams, and make games using open source game tools, and explore new interactive technologies in the Light Lab in AR/VR/XR.

What is Robotics Club?

The UNO Robotics Club is an interdepartmental club between Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering. Together, students learn and build robots in preparation for the IEEE robotics competition.

What we'll do in Robotics Club?

Learn how to design, construct, implement, and program autonomous robots

Who can join WebDev Club?

Membership is open to all UNO students. No experience necessary

A special interest group for web-based technologies. HTML, CSS, JavaScript, React, Node, MongoDB, Websockets, WebGL, WASM, etc.

Make web applications, discuss web technologies, participate in online web dev challenges
