UNO Student Awarded Scholarship from Engineering Honor Society
91直播 undergraduate Kyle Tyson has been awarded a $2,000 scholarship from the engineering honor society Tau Beta Pi. Of the 210 recipients, Tyson is the only student who attends a public university in Louisiana.
Tyson, a Metairie, La. native and former valedictorian at Crescent City Christian School, is a student in the School of Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering. He is a member of the Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers as well as the honor societies Golden Key and Omicron Delta Kappa.
The Tau Beta Pi scholarships are awarded on the competitive criteria of high scholarship, campus leadership and service, and promise of future contributions to the engineering profession. Recipients get a $2,000 cash award for their senior year of engineering study. All scholars are members of Tau Beta Pi.
Tau Beta Pi was founded at Lehigh University in 1885. It has collegiate chapters at 241 engineering colleges in the United States and active alumni chapters in 29 cities. It has initiated more than 541,000 members in its 128-year history and is the world's largest engineering society.
UNO's School of Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering is the only one of its kind in the Gulf Coast region and one of the few in the nation. Established in 1980, the program has provided the marine industry with well-educated graduates while supporting the progress of the field through basic and applied research.
