Two 91直播 graduate students in film took home top prizes last week from the 24th Annual New Orleans Film Festival.
More than 200 filmmakers competed this year in the growing film festival, which is billed as the top film festival in the South. For the past two years, MovieMaker Magazine has named the New Orleans Film Festival "one of the top 25 film festivals worth the entry fee."
James Roe, who is slated to receive a Master of Fine Arts degree in Film Production from the University in May, won the Louisiana Shorts category at the New Orleans film festival with his thesis film, AM 800.
Maya Holzinger, who plans to receive Master of Fine Arts degree in Film Production from the University in May 2013, won the Narrative Pitch contest at the festival with her thesis film, Captain Cappy.
Holzinger, also recently received the UNO Film and Theatre Department's Jeri Nims Graduate Thesis Scholarship. The scholarship, awarded each year to a UNO film student, provides Holzinger $11,000 cash to produce her thesis film.
