UNO Marketing Week Draws Speakers from Around the Region
Now in its second year, UNO Marketing Week is designed to help interested students, particularly marketing majors, polish their skills as they prepare for careers in marketing, said Professor of Marketing Pamela Kennett-Hensel, who is also chair of the University's marketing department. More than 20 leading marketers from around the region will speak to UNO students this week for Marketing 2.0.
"In class students study marketing theory and they really acquire the tools necessary to go out and start a career in marketing but we really want to give them a chance to see what other people have done with a degree in marketing and all of the available career paths to them," said Kennett-Hensel. "It also gives them an opportunity to network with all of the top marketing professionals in the New Orleans area."
Marketing is one of the top 10 undergraduate majors at the University and UNO also offers a concentration in marketing in the MBA program, said Kennett-Hensel.
Since Monday, speakers have visited the University's international marketing, strategic marketing management, principles of marketing, marketing management, promotion management, sales management, marketing research methods, introduction to marketing research, consumer behavior and personal selling classes.
Speakers have included: John Hyatt of Irwin Brown, Myra Corello of Find Your Spice Seminars LLC, Shelley Elliott of Aegis Ltd. Marketing, Melissa Sabathier of Strategic Restaurants, Kris Gabik of 84 Flash, Joey Cabeceiras of Big Easy Sports Complex, Jeff Rossi of the Greater New Orleans Sports Foundation/NBA All-Star Host Committee, Mark Mayer of Peter A. Mayer Advertising, John Glorioso of Northwestern Mutual of Louisiana, Brian Landry of Children's Hospital, Maria Ortiz of the UNO Division of Business and Economic Research, Sondra Brown of Market Dynamic Research Group, consultant Virginia Saussy, Scott Gregory of Lamar Advertising, Jeffrey Ory of il Stratega and Gerald Sambola of Sampson Business Products.
This year's keynote speaker is a UNO alumna who founded the world's largest cocktail festival. UNO alumna Ann Tuennerman gives a talk entitled "The Brand Called You" on Thursday in Kirschman Hall.
This afternoon, Tuennerman and Katherine LeBlanc will speak to a marketing strategy class about "Job Search Advice."
"With the help of my advisory board we have tried to include some speakers specifically to help students prepare their job search," said Kennett-Hensel. "This includes talks on interviewing strategies, as well as resume and cover letter reviews."
