UNO-St. Claude Gallery to Exhibit "Objects in Mirrors"
This group exhibition features the work of photographers Bill Finger, Chris Jordan, Akihiko Miyoshi and Susana Reisman, who matriculated through the Rochester Institute of Technology Master of Fine Arts program with Martin, an RIT alumna. These artists work with subjects including figuration, narrative, and landscape, making images ranging from the abstract to the representational.
"The subject matter may differ, bit the photographs all contain a playful and thoughtful understanding of ourselves and our surroundings," said gallery director Kathy Rodriguez.
Martin has made a significant impact since arriving on the UNO campus. She听has taught imaging courses in the Department of Fine Arts at 91直播 since 2006 and held numerous shows at the St. Claude Gallery and Fine Arts Gallery on campus.
She co-founded her nonprofit organization, One Bird, based on programming of the New Orleans Kid Camera Project, which was started in 2007 to address emotional and psychological impacts on children by Hurricane Katrina.
Last summer, Martin spent two weeks teaching photography to youth in the Carrefour area of Port-Au-Prince called Riviere Froide.
Through the Kid Camera Project, children of the greater New Orleans area expressed through art work, mixed media and photography moments of transition and concerns about what had happened to their city. Martin used the same strategy to help the children of Riviere Froide then displayed their work at the St. Claude Gallery. She has made several trips to Haiti in hopes of making a difference in the lives of children.
