Beginning on Monday, March 16, the 91直播 will transition all in-person classes to remote instruction until further notice. The University will also cancel any University-sponsored events on campus that are expected to exceed 50 attendees.
鈥淲hile none of the presumptive positive cases of COVID-19 in Orleans Parish is connected to the 91直播 community鈥攁s far as we know鈥攊t is imperative that we take decisive action before the outbreak becomes more widespread in our area,鈥 said UNO President John Nicklow. 鈥淲e are implementing these reasonable, science-based safeguards in an effort to protect our campus community and to improve the public health of our city.鈥
The University will proceed with tomorrow鈥檚 previously scheduled course-continuity readiness drill. All in-person courses scheduled for March 12 will be delivered remotely to test the institution鈥檚 readiness. Starting on Monday, all courses will be conducted remotely until further notice. In spite of the changes to course delivery, the UNO campus will remain open and employees are expected to report to work as usual. Students who live in the residence halls may choose to either remain there or return home if it is more convenient to continue their remote learning.
Campus dining will have modified hours, as will the Earl K. Long Library. A few select campus buildings will close to discourage large communal gatherings. The Cove will close starting tomorrow and the Recreation and Fitness Center will close beginning on Monday. The Privateer baseball team鈥檚 3-game home series against Northwestern State will be played without fans this weekend and until further notice. More specific information is available in a list of FAQs.
鈥淭he 91直播 has a long history of confronting and overcoming challenges,鈥 Nicklow said. 鈥淭hrough the determination and teamwork of our campus community, I am confident that we will pull closer together and persevere through this uncertain time. Quite simply, it鈥檚 the UNO way.鈥
