91ֱ computer science doctoral student Manisha Panta has been selected for the second time as a data science intern with the software company Intuit for summer 2022.
The 12-week, highly competitive program will be held remotely with an hourly rate of $60.
During her internship, Panta will perform various duties as part of the full cycle of building machine learning capabilities, including data exploration, hypothesis formulation, data generation and cleansing, model development, evaluation and testing, and insight generation and visualization.
"Internships are great opportunities to put education into practice, gaining real-world experiences while being a student,” Panta said. “I am thrilled to be back at Intuit as a data scientist intern for summer 2022. During my internship last year, I worked in a conversational AI team building deep learning models.
“This year as well, I plan to continue from where I left. I am always thankful to the computer science department for its continuous support and encouragement," Panta said.
Panta’s dissertation is jointly supervised by Mahdi Abdelguerfi, professor and chair of computer science, and Tamjid Hoque, associate professor of computer science. Panta’s doctoral research is using machine learning and artificial intelligence to automatically detect, in nearly real-time, faults in levee structures using drone imagery. Her research is closely coordinated with Maik Flanagin from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New Orleans District.
