91ֱ counseling professor Anabel Mifsud has been awarded the 2022 Dissertation Excellence Award from the National Board for Certified Counselors (NBCC). The annual award recognizes original research that significantly contributes to the counseling profession.
Mifsud, who earned her doctorate in counselor education and supervision from UNO, won in the qualitative research category for her dissertation, “Exploring Community- and Society-Level Interventions for Healing Historical Trauma: A Grounded Theory Study.”
Mifsud’s dissertation will be published in the NBCC's peer-reviewed journal, The Professional Counselor.
Mifsud holds a bachelor's degree in psychology from the University of Malta and a master’s in health psychology from the University College London and King's College London.
Her research interests include historical and intergenerational trauma, internationalization of counseling and counselor education, the role of counseling in community development and sustainable peace and behavioral health services for migrants, refugees and people with HIV.
