In a tradition that celebrates school pride, the 91ֱ is gearing up for Homecoming Week 2023, which starts Nov. 6. That means Privateers can connect, cheer and celebrate NOLA's Team with a slate of activities on campus and around the city.
The week’s events include the Distinguished Alumni Gala, Hall of Fame induction ceremony, pep rally, pre-game tailgating, and the homecoming basketball and volleyball games.
“Being that many of our alumni are local, coming back to campus probably feels a bit like making time to visit an old friend—something you'd like to do but don't prioritize because it could happen anytime. Homecoming is a great opportunity to maximize your visit,” said dean of students LeeAnne Sipe. “Whether you're looking to reconnect with faculty and staff, see what your old student organization is up to, or want to be part of cheering on our Privateers, homecoming is a time for connections.”
Some of the on-campus events include movie night, a friends and family day outing featuring a DJ and inflatables, and a free homecoming tailgate that includes food, a kids zone with inflatables and games, group tents, giveaways and entertainment.
The signature alumni event is the annual Distinguished Alumni Gala on Thursday, Nov. 9, at the National WWII Museum. Sponsored by Entergy and Google, the event honors the 2023 UNO Homer Hitt Distinguished Alumni Award winner and the 2023 Norma Jane Sabiston Young Alumna of the Year, as well as outstanding alumni for each of UNO’s colleges and Privateer athletics. The Caesars Superdome will be illuminated Privateer blue, in salute to the city’s only public research university.
The festive week culminates Saturday, Nov. 11, with a homecoming tailgate village outside the Lakefront Arena leading up to the tipoff of the men’s basketball game against Southern University at New Orleans at 4 p.m.
