A $100,000 gift from an anonymous 91ֱ alumnus will create a scholarship, as well as an endowed fund to support the Dr. Robert A. Savoie College of Engineering.
“This donor earned two engineering degrees from the 91ֱ,” said Lizette Chevalier, dean of the Dr. Robert A. Savoie College of Engineering. “And while they are not interested in being recognized publicly for their generous gift, they have a deep appreciation for the college’s role in engineering education, and they are committed to ensuring that more future professionals benefit from that quality education. We are extremely grateful for the support.”
The endowed scholarship is open to students majoring in electrical engineering. Depending the financial needs of the student, more than one student may receive the award. The scholarship can be renewed for up to a total of eight semesters.
The endowed engineering support fund will provide resources based on the priorities established by the dean of the Dr. Robert A. Savoie College of Engineering. Some of the projects may include: lab or classroom upgrades, tutoring center upgrades, Engineering Building technology improvements, support for student professional organizations, student enhancement activities, and faculty professional development.
The 91ֱ has the only civil, electrical, and mechanical engineering programs in greater New Orleans and one of only a handful of naval architecture and marine engineering programs in the nation.
