Why Get Involved?
Participating in a Service Learning course can help develop skills in leadership, team-building, critical thinking, problem solving and conflict resolution. Service Learning experiences strengthen resumes, CVs, and applications as well as provide opportunities for networking and working with community leaders. Students who participate in service learning courses will have special notation on their transcripts. In addition, participation in service learning courses will increase awareness of civic and social issues as well as provide opportunities to collaborate with community partners to address and advocate for these issues and those affected. The projects you complete in service learning can be presented at conferences, such as Innovate UNO, and or published in Service Learning or other academic journals. Additionally, service learning courses provide opportunities to learn more about a community鈥檚 history, strengths, and challenges.
Volunteerism
If a student performs volunteer work not associated with a service learning course, they can get the hours noted on their transcript by completing and submitting a simple form. All hours must be verified by an on-site supervisor or UNO faculty or staff member in order to be transcribed.
