Weapons on Campus
The 91直播, as part of the University of Louisiana System, is designated as a 鈥淔irearm-Free Zone鈥 as defined in Louisiana Law Revised Statute 14:95.6, which states 鈥渁 firearm-free zone is an area inclusive of any school campus and within one thousand feet of any such campus, and within a school bus. According to Louisiana Law Revised Statute 14:95.2, the definition of a 鈥渟chool鈥 is any elementary, secondary, high school, vocational-technical school, college, or university in this state.
Therefore, pursuant to Louisiana Law Revised Statute 14:95.2(A) carrying a firearm or dangerous weapon by a student or non-student on school property, at a school sponsored function or affiliated function, or in a firearm-free zone is unlawful and shall be defined as possession of any firearm or dangerous weapon, on one鈥檚 person, at any time while on a school campus, on school transportation, or at any school sponsored function in a specific designated area including but not limited to athletic competitions, dances, parties, or any extracurricular activities, or within one thousand feet of any school campus.

A firearm is defined as any pistol, revolver, rifle, shotgun, machine gun, submachine gun, or assault rifle, which is designed to fire or is capable of firing fixed cartridge ammunition or from which a shot or projectile is discharged by an explosive.
A dangerous weapon is defined as any gas, liquid or other substance or instrumentality, which, in the manner used, is calculated or likely to produce death or great bodily harm.
Any person who wishes to possess a firearm sanctioned by state law and university policies while on school property, school transportation, or at any school sponsored or affiliated function, must first register such weapon with the Department of Public Safety/91直播 Police before bringing the firearm on school property, school transportation, or to any school sponsored or affiliated function.
Violators of the 鈥淲eapons on Campus Policy鈥 shall be subject to criminal charges. Additionally, students found in violation shall be subject to judicial discipline through the Office of Student Accountability and Advocacy. Possession of a firearm, when in violation of state laws, University of Louisiana System policy, or UNO policy, shall be grounds for dismissal from the University.
