Graduate Assistantships

Film and Theatre offer Graduate Assistant (GA) positions for work in department facilities and offices, and teaching undergraduate entry-level courses. The number of available positions each year is based on Departmental needs and funding.

For graduate students, assistantships provide the opportunity to learn important skills, practice teaching, and help pay for school. GA assignments are made in the equipment room, scene shop, costume shop, editing labs, theatre box office, and main office. Assistants may also teach introductory undergraduate courses in film production, digital technology, film arts, oral communications, theatre arts, acting, and basic visual design. Other duties may include website development, promotion and public relations, and department communications.

Graduate Assistants receive a stipend and may receive a tuition remission for the Fall and Spring semesters in which they are employed. More information about Graduate Assistantships, including links to 91ֱ�� rules and regulations can be found at the Graduate School Website.

Graduate School Website

All Film and Theatre MFA graduate applicants are automatically considered for assistantships and scholarships. Consideration is given to student's grades, previous work experience, overall performance in classes, attitude and work ethic. Applicants should make their interest known to the Graduate Program Coordinator of their area.

The Film and Screenwriting applicants are automatically considered for assistantships. Responsibilities may change from year to year as the student gains familiarity with the program’s resources, equipment and facilities. In addition, 18 graduate credit hours are needed before becoming an IOR (Instructor of Record) for an undergraduate course. Exceptions may be made for incoming students with a high level of technical skills or who already hold a related graduate degree. The film program requires graduate students to TA/audit the specific undergraduate course they may teach before becoming an IOR.

The Theatre Performance and Design applicants are automatically considered for assistantships. As with Film, 18 graduate credit hours are needed before becoming an IOR (Instructor of Record) for an undergraduate course. Exceptions may be made for incoming students with a high level of technical skills or who already hold a related graduate degree.

Graduate Assistant position may become available to 2nd or 3rd year students from time to time. Current Film or Theatre students may make their interest known to the Graduate Program Coordinator of their area.

Film and Theatre have a limited number of Graduate Assistantships and Scholarship Awards. We have no access to GA-ships in other departments.
