Outcomes
4.1 Increase the level of participation of the greater New Orleans community in campus-hosted activities.
Strategies
4.1.1 Offer professional and continuing education courses that include certificate programs, workshops and camps to the UNO community and employers through the Professional and Continuing Education Division (PaCE).
4.1.2 Offer opportunities to collaborate with diverse community stakeholders in the New Orleans region to design and host campus events that respond to various needs.
4.1.3 Work with the Office of Institutional Research, Effectiveness and Planning, Event Planning and key personnel in campus units to create a structure to report campus hosted research, scholarly, creative and athletic events.
4.1.4 Disseminate and implement reporting procedure and rationale to all campus units.
4.2 Increase the level of civic engagement of UNO students, faculty, and staff through experiential learning and other community-engaged scholarly and creative activities.
4.2.1 Develop and adopt a clear definition of Civic Engagement and Experiential Learning and conduct faculty outreach to improve campus-wide understanding of the benefits of civic engagement and experiential learning.
4.2.2 Review the coding system for university courses to facilitate identification of courses with embedded opportunities for civic engagement and experiential learning.
4.2.3 Identify and support other strategies in addition to experiential learning that increase civic engagement of students, faculty, and staff.
4.3 Enhance opportunities for engagement with regional, state, national and international organizations that improve research, scholarly, creative, and athletic activities.
4.3.1 Communicate importance to faculty of reporting service to external organizations on the Community Service section of Faculty 180.
4.3.2 Ensure community service endeavors are recognized within the annual review process.
4.3.3 Work to develop and pilot a structure to report engagement activities for faculty, staff, and students.
4.3.4 Explore reengagement with the Fulbright program and develop other opportunities for international exchange.
4.4 Enhance resources available to support the UNO mission and values through alumni efforts, community support, and other fund raising endeavors.
4.4.1 Complete leadership phase of UNO Comprehensive Campaign.
4.4.2 Provide diverse and meaningful engagement opportunities to the UNO alumni base.
4.4.3 Cultivate an enduring sense of UNO community and belonging among the UNO alumni base.
4.4.4 Expand pathways for progressive volunteer participation and leadership.
4.4.5 Review alumni registration system to determine feasibility of adding additional demographic data including race and ethnicity.
